A Great Read: 9 Laws of Money
Morgan Housel wrote an incredible book, Psychology of Money. It helps define what “wealth” means. What does your windfall mean, and how do you think about it?
Morgan recently posted an article, “A Few Laws of Getting Rich,” which I think would be more appropriately named, “9 Laws of Being Rich and Mentally Sane About It”.
Anyway, that doesn’t matter, but my favorite quote is:
Expectations can rise faster than income, so a higher income sends expectations spiraling out of control.
Wealth is relative. Luxury is relative. Both are just a comparison between what you have and what other people have.
As I’m approaching two years after my exit, I’ve realized how I view post-exit fulfillment is perspective-based.
Relaxing expectations and coming from a position of gratitude makes decisions easier.
Don’t want to start a business again? Who cares. Poking around a new business idea? Treat it like a small project, not the next unicorn. Don’t feel fulfilled anymore? Make a hobby your new job.
You don’t have to play by the rules anymore. Low expectations makes life a lot more fun.
